Not only did I select these pictures because they are slightly less explicit than the rest of Alexander’s work, but also because the rough edge they’ve got. The best part of photography is the contradictions. People state that photography is a reproduction of “reality” or “the world through their eyes” or many other types of forms of recording what is in front of the lens.
No matter how you see it, photography records (or documents) the image of whatever stands in front of the camera. But some photographers have the talent of taking these captures and completely morphing them (I’m not speaking of digital retouching here), they hide and expose certain areas of an image, leaving only the mysterious, the beautiful; the parts that render this recording almost surrealistic. This isn’t always intentional, but I don’t see anything wrong with relying on chance sometimes.
Alexander’s nude photography caught my eye because of this very aspect of photography. Using the grainy and dark exposure of his camera, the pictures he takes have a completely amazing impact on the viewer.
